A model of the Cliffe Hill Bagnall 0-4-2 T "Mary" built by John William Langridge. Interestingly the chassis for this loco has been built as a long wheelbase 0-4-0 with the middle 'axle' not having any wheels. Photo © Andrew Burnham, used with permission

Aire Valley Railway “Audrey”
Aire Valley Railway “Audrey” is based on an American “Forney” design for the Billerica & Bedford RR and featured in the July 1963 edition of Railway Modeller, this loco. Built by Derek Naylor in 1960, "Audrey" is one of several survivors of his groundbreaking 00n3 (4 mm scale, 12 mm gauge) Aire Valley Railway that are in the 009 Society's collection. "Audrey" has had some restoration work (replacement of a missing rear pony truck) under the 009 Society's ownership. Photo © Andrew Burnham, used with permission

David Mander's Stronachlachar Railway Number 3, based on the Ffestiniog Railway's Prince, and believed to have been built as early as the 1950s. Photo © Andrew Burnham, used with permissionaccurate scale:gauge combination using 9 mm gauge track. Photo © Andrew Burnham, used with permission

P.D. Hancock's Ffestiniog themed "Angus"
P.D. Hancock's take on the Ffestiniog 'England' theme with his "Angus". According to his book "Narrow Gauge Adventure - The story of the Craig & Mertonford Railway"' "Angus" started out as a Douglass Models 'Welsh Pony' but has been "completely rebuilt to be as close to true 4 mm scale as possible." Early Eggbahn diesel with 9 volt Marx Microperm/Nanoperm 9 motor
OK, so this one isn't "Strictly 009" as it was sold as HO (1:87 scale, or 3.5mm to one foot) but many of the early 009 modellers were happy to mix and match, and for those not blessed with the engineering skills to scratch build the ready to run offerings from the likes of Eggerbahn in what was then known as Western Germany offered an easy way in. First produced in 1964 this is one of the early examples with the 9 volt Marx Microperm/Nanoperm 9 motor. Photo © Andrew Burnham, used with permission

John William's Ffestiniog 'England' locomotive
Continuing the theme of Ffestiniog 'England' locomotives this example built by John William Langridge shows "Mountaineer" in as-built condition (without the saddle tank / ballast weight). Photo © Andrew Burnham, used with permission

David Mander’s DHR 0-4-0+0-4-0 Garratt
The DHR 0-4-0+0-4-0 Garratt was the third Garratt locomotive built, and only the second design. Beyer Peacock built a single example in 1911, and it suffered from numerous problems as one might expect from a 'prototype', but the DHR
works at Tindharia persevered and by the 1920s it ran fairly successfully on the 'Extension' lines. This loco was scratch built by David Mander in the late 1950s for his pioneer 009 layout “The Stronachlachar Railway”. Photo © Andrew Burnham, used with permission

Sharman ‘Monster’ "Nearliaflirt"
Sharman ‘Monster’ "Nearliaflirt"
Built by the Mike Sharman in 1968/69 and described in a Railway Modeller article in 1970.This freelance loco has worked on a number of layouts, including Paul Towers' 'Wunce Onli'. "Nearliaflirt" and the other 'Monsters' all use the Minitrix 0-6-0 chassis with some heavy modification. © Andrew Burnham, used with permission
