Coleford is based on a real railway in the Forest of Dean, with history having been warped a little to suit a “narrow” (gauge) mind. I don’t have much space for a large layout, and so I needed to design something that was small and portable. At the same time, I wanted something that was interesting and went a little beyond a simple platform and siding. I have always been a fan of unusual trackwork, and on Coleford, there are two different types of track; stone based chairs, and longitudinal sleepers. They are built by “track-bashing” commercial Peco points and track.
